Current Activity : Associate Professor Dr. Sutan Emir Hidayat (Born in Padang, West Sumatra, 11 April 1981; age: 40 years) is the Director of Islamic Economy Supporting Ecosystem at the National Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance [1] (KNEKS), the Republic of Indonesia. Previously, he was the Director of Education and Research at the National Committee for Islamic Finance (KNKS).[2] He is also an Associate Professor at International Open University (IOU). [3]
Dr. Hidayat was born to parents of a traditional and cultural leader. His father is Muhammad Taufiq Thaib who was previously the holder of the Yang Dipertuan Raja Alam Pagaruyung, and his mother is Puti Reno Rachma Oesman. He is currently the working group member of the following institutions: a) Sustainability Working Group, CIBAFI ; b) Working Group FAS 1, AAOIFI; c) Editorial Advisory Board, IFN Red-Money; d) Editorial Advisory Board, International Journal of Islamic and Middle Eastern Finance and Management, Emerald; and e) Editorial Advisory Board, Journal of Economic Cooperation and Development, SESRIC.
Dr. Hidayat was the Head of Business School at University College of Bahrain (UCB) with an academic rank of Associate Professor. He has published quite significant number of research papers in reputable international journals. He is also an associate editor for Journal of Islamic Financial Studies and editor for many journals. He also has published several books and contributed chapters in many books, some of them are published by renowned publishers such as Springer, and Macmillan. He is regularly invited in many reputable conferences, seminars, and forums. Among them are 11th Harvard University Forum on Islamic Finance, Gulf Research Meeting at University of Cambridge, AAOIFI-World Bank Annual Conference on Islamic Banking and Finance, IFN Forums in many countries, and IRTI-IDB conferences and workshops in many countries. He is regularly invited by many universities across Indonesia to speak about Islamic Economy and Finance. He is also an Islamic finance journalist. He regularly publishes articles in Islamic Finance News (IFN-Red Money) and other magazines and newspapers.
He and his team at KNEKS were suppliers of data to many global Islamic economic and financial report publishers in 2019. As a result, by the grace of Allah Indonesia's rank has significantly increased in those reports. Due to his contribution to the Islamic Economy, He was recognized as one of the top influential 500 personalities on a global scale in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 by ISFIN, a leading advisory firm for Islamic markets.
